This is a studio play. Auditions are on Wednesday 17th July at 7.30pm, Sunday 21st July at 2.30pm, Monday 22nd July at 7.30pm if needed. All in the Theatre Lounge.
Playing dates 11th-14th December
Brothers Joe and Dan go out for a night on the town. Only one comes back: 18 year old Dan is fatally stabbed by Emma, a drug addict. His family falls apart. The father, John, takes up whiskey and jogging, and Joe believes his parents wish it was he who had died, rather than Dan. Meanwhile, the boys’ mother Mary, feels as though Emma (now imprisoned) has taken up residence in their lives, a malignant squatter whose ghostly presence cripples them. Her determination to understand the atrocity brings her to enlist the help of psychologist, Elizabeth and to come face to face with Dan’s killer, forcing the family to confront the bitter senselessness of their loss.
This is an interesting and challenging play in which all the cast have several monologues, (lots to learn!) and the roles are equally weighted. There is no interval, and the audience are intriguingly close.
Characters:
Mary, The Mother 45-55
John, The Husband 45-55
Elizabeth, The Psychologist 30-40
Emma, The perpetrator, 18 years old
Joe, The brother, 20 years old
The ages are playing ages, and not necessarily the cast members’ personal age.
Nadine Beasley, the director says: “I come to this with a completely clean slate in terms of all the actors at Harborough, as I know none of you, so I do hope you will come and have a go at the audition.” For further information on the play and/or characters, please contact Nadine on mobile 07711 285155 or nadinebeasley@btinternet.com.
