This is a national project held biennially. The 2023-24 edition attracted entries from across the UK. The ninth edition of Chesil Theatre’s Take Ten New Writing Festival is now open for entries. The selected theme is ‘Angels’. The Festival organisers hope entrants will be encouraged to bring their unique perspectives and innovative takes to this timeless and intriguing theme – leather-clad angels on motor bikes, celestial beings, fallen and guardian angels, nursing angels, theatrical angels – even angel cake and angel fish! This is a wonderful opportunity for both aspiring and experienced writers to have their work performed.

The LTG Patron, Jessica Swale commented on the most recent edition of TakeTen: “Kudos to every one of you who’s had the courage to pick up a pen (or open a word document) and write, because it is no easy task. To construct a scenario, a world, people from dust and make them whole, make them speak , takes time and commitment. And yet the rewards can be glorious.”
The format is simple: Plays need to be 10 minutes playing length. Scripts can include one to four actors, with minimum set, props, lighting and sound. Works must be original, unperformed and unpublished. This year’s theme ‘Angels’ must be included in the treatment.
The closing date is 23.59 BST 1st June 2025. Entries are judged anonymously by an independent panel, all drawn from the world of theatre, drama and entertainment. The final 10 winners will be announced in November 2025 and performed in Chesil Theatre over one weekend on 27th February/1st March 2026.
