The 39 Steps
Patrick Barlow’s inspiration was the Alfred Hitchcock film, a black+white classic starring Robert Donat, based on John Buchan’s novel. It opened at London’s Tricycle Theatre in 2006 and soon transferred to the Criterion Theatre, where it plays to this day. In 2007, it opened on Broadway and has since played in over 39 countries. It is hilarious ~ the square-jawed hero gets into, and out of, a variety of scrapes, sometimes while handcuffed to our gorgeous heroine, and pursued vigorously by both villains and the police.
The parts are all performed by just four actors.
