Market Harborough Movie Makers’ Film Show

The films in this year’s programme will include these new films: ‘The Cottage Hospital’ – Tracing the history of the hospital with contributions from some of the staff who worked there over the years. ‘The Langton Brewery’ – A documentary about the workings of our local brewery, including the harvesting and production of the ingredients used in making beer. ‘Off Roading at Avalanche Adventure near Sibbertoft’ – An exciting look at 4 x 4 vehicles negotiation the snow, mud and water on this demanding course.
Also some films from the Archives: ‘When the Floods Returned, 1958’ – Probably the worst flood in the town in living memory. ‘Behind the Time’ – A short film showing the repairs and workings of the Parish Church Clock. ‘The Gardening Club Show, 1974’ – A colourful display set out on the stalls in the old Market Hall on Northampton Road. ‘Newsreel 1974’ – Events covered include wind damage in January, cutting down Poplar trees in Welland Park cross-roads, demolition of houses in Northampton Road, new Squash Courts in Fairfield Road and the old St. Luke’s Hospital building before demolition. ‘French Market in the Square in 1999’ – One of the first films shot on video cameras by the Movie Makers.
