Make a Pop-Up Tango Orchestra for the day…
Strictly Come Dancing 2017 featured the argentine tango ‘Por Una Cabeza’ with Debbie & Giovanni; a tune made famous by Carlos Gardel and freatured in the 1992 film ‘Scent of a Woman’. Now a Pop-Up tango orchestra is planned for Market Harborough. Players of violins, clarinets and any suitable instrument are invited to the theatre studio on Saturday April 7th to form an “orquesta típica” workshop for the afternoon. In addition to ‘Por Una Cabeza’ famous tangos such as ‘A Media Luz’, ‘Comme il Faut’, Poema and ‘Cuartitio Azul’ will be on the menu.
The workshop will take these well-known tunes from the golden era of tango with the aim of creating dance music with the authentic tango rhythm. As a community orchestra, amateur musicians are especially welcome and will be supported by receiving the sheet music well in advance. In addition good quality example recordings in the correct key will be identified so allowing plenty of opportunity for preparation.
The Pop-Up tango orchestra takes its inspiration from Das Bremen Community Tango Orchestra and the composer and arranger Korey Ireland. Korey has taken the original recordings played by ‘Orquesta Francisco Canaro’ and ‘Edgardo Donato y sus Muchachos’ and created arrangements suitable for amateur musicians. The workshop will allow each instrument to play melody and rhythm parts and should prove great fun.
